Cute pub with friendly staff, beer selection that satisfies the tastes of proper beer drinkers, and actually quite light inside whilst still remaining cosy.
I just drank here (all fairly cheap), but I have reliable intel that the food is marvellous. -

I stayed a night at The Golden Ball while on a business trip to Shropshire. It's an interesting old pub, and my room was quite spacious and comfortable. It looks like it may have even been a second bar at some point, with the converted kitchen area giving off a strong pub vibe.
We decided to take the short walk down to the river to the tapas restaurant for dinner, but the staff at the Golden Ball was very friendly, and the beer selection seemed reasonable. When I return, I'll likely try something from their menu, as there were quite a few tasty-sounding pub standards.
Nice cozy place for a night's stay, and with a decent pub right downstairs it has everything I need for business trip accommodations. -

The Golden Ball is a frequent weekly lunchtime haunt - good beer, friendly service, and good quality pub grub.
This evening we made one of our occasional visits for an evening meal in the restaurant. As ever, the food was good, cod and chips, chicken and faggots were all pronounced "good" and the service was much better than at our last visit in autumn '09.
A bit off the beaten path but, nonetheless, popular and well worth seeking out -
